North Lanarkshire Council have confirmed 15 new properties will be constructed on the former Kildrum Primary School site at Lochlea Road. Little is known of the plans except that they will be council housing. We will be finding out more about these plans from North Lanarkshire Council and we will be discussing their proposals at the next Community Council meeting on Wednesday 25th September at 7pm in the YMCA annex building, opposite the Afton Road shop.
Also, Sanctuary Cumbernauld are nearing completion of their new housing at Ainslie and Maclehose Roads. This development has made a huge improvement from the former flats which were present on the site and the new properties look great, both inside and out.
Our next meeting will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 29th May, in the YMCA/YWCA annex building opposite the Afton Road shop. If you want to find out more about what is going on in the area, or if you have any concerns or complaints you would like us to escalate, please come along from 7pm.
Community Police are expected to be in attendance, along with at least one local Councillor. This meeting will be our AGM and we expect to have drinks and nibbles available as well. All Kildrum residents are welcome to attend.
This summer Lye Brae, one of the main roads which bypass Kildrum, will be closed for around 18 weeks, from early June until mid-September.
The closure will allow the two footbridges which cross the road, between Millcroft Road and Corbiston Way, to be strengthened and resurfaced, with the existing bridge decks being removed to allow the work to take place.
North Lanarkshire Council state that the work has been scheduled to be carried out over the school summer holidays to “minimise the disruption to pupils at the nearby Cumbernauld High”.
As the road is a key route from the Town Centre to Abronhill, and South Carbrain; and from these locations to Seafar, Cumbernauld Village, the Town Centre, and the M80; we expect to see a sharp increase in traffic along Kildrum Ring Road as a result.
Over the weekend FirstBus reduced their services in the area when they cancelled the X4 and X80 services and reduced the 36 to a morning service only. The X5 is still available from Kildrum but only every 30 minutes off-peak on weekdays.
However, Stagecoach have countered the FirstBus service reduction by increasing their own services, with a new X25A which will serve Kildrum before heading along North Carbrain Road. The new X25/X25A Stagecoach timetable can be downloaded by clicking here [PDF] [2.12Mb].
